Folders are the closest thing X has ever shipped to bookmark organization. They are also Premium-only, unsearchable, and still tied to posts that can vanish. Here is what you actually get, what you don't, and what to do if you're on a free account.
By default every post you bookmark on X drops into a single reverse-chronological list. Bookmark Folders let you file saves into named groups instead, so a post you saved for work doesn't sit between a recipe and a thread you meant to read on Sunday. A post can live in a folder and still show up in the main Bookmarks timeline, so filing something doesn't remove it from the list you already know.
That's the whole feature. Named buckets, manually assigned, one post at a time.
Folders are part of X Premium. On a free account the bookmark button still works and your saves are still stored, but the option to create or manage folders isn't there. This catches people out constantly: they read a guide, go looking for the folder icon, and conclude the feature is broken when the real answer is that it was never on their account.
If you already pay for Premium, folders are on the Bookmarks screen. If you don't, no setting, browser, or app version will surface them.
Which is the awkward part: folders ask you to do the filing work up front, and then don't give you the two things that filing work is supposed to buy, findability and durability.
Bookmarking on X costs nothing, so keep doing it. The change worth making is where the saves end up afterwards. If your bookmarks are copied into a library you control, the organizing problem stops being about folders at all, because you can search the text instead of remembering which bucket you picked.
That's what Zihin does. A Chrome extension syncs your X bookmarks into your own library through your own logged-in browser session, and from there they are searchable by meaning rather than by exact wording, auto-tagged into topics, and grouped into folders you didn't have to create by hand.
